The Phantom Advocate: The Redeeming Factors of Episode I - The Star Wars Report

As Disney’s influence over Star Wars grows, the fan base gets increasingly split. There’s a general love of Rogue One, but some fans claim that The Force Awakens was too similar to A New Hope, and the fallout of The Last Jedi caught mainstream media headlines for its divisiveness. The Last Jedi is noted as the catalyst to the next Star Wars movie, Solo, flopping at the box […]

Topics: Ewan McGregor to Return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Disney Plus Series Ewan McGregor is in talks to return as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a series for Disney Plus, Variety has confirmed. No other details on the potential series were available. McGregor previously played the character in the three “Star Wars” prequels “The Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones,” and “Revenge of the Sith.” There had been talk for years that McGregor would return in an Obi-Wan standalone film, but those plans were reportedly put on hold following the unsuccessful roll out of “Star Wars” standalone film “Solo.” Reps for McGregor and Disney Plus did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment. The Obi-Wan series would be the third live-action “Star Wars” show on Disney Plus. The nascent streamer has previously announced “The Mandalorian” from Jon Favreau starring Pedro Pascal as well as a series based on Cassian Andor, the character first introduce in the film “Rogue One” with Diego Luna reprising his role from the film. ‘Star Wars’: Benioff & Weiss Deal Altered, Rian Johnson “Moving Forward” from Legacy Characters On the D&D front, it actually appears that the duo will not be as hands-on as expected. Though the original plan called for Benioff and Weiss to pen all three installments, a note in a THR report on the pair’s mind-boggling $250 million Netflix deal claims they are writing an overall treatment while aiming to also pen “at least one” of the films. Sources say the Thrones pair is writing a treatment for a Star Wars trilogy and is committed to penning at least one of the films (the original deal was to write all three). It’s unclear if the duo, who also have another feature for Fox/Disney carved out, will do more than just write for Star Wars. As for Johnson, the Last Jedi director confirmed that he’s looking to “move forward” from the main players of the 42-year-old Skywalker Saga while also digging into the “essence” of what makes Star Wars, Star Wars. “I think that the fun and challenging part of it is to dive in, figure out what’s exciting and then figure out what it’s going to be,” he said. “We’re doing something that steps beyond the legacy characters. What does that look like? To me, the blue sky element of it is what was most striking about it. I know the way that I’m coming at it and what’s fun about it for everyone in George Lucas’ films is figuring out, ‘what’s the next step?’ It really makes you think and figure out what the essence of Star Wars is for me and what that will look like moving forward.”   Kylo Ren makes a cameo in trailer for Star Wars Resistance season two      Boba's Bounty Bruce: Star Wars Omnibus - A Long Time Ago Vol. 1 Mark: N/A Riley: Beltway Banthas returns! Hasbro: Star Wars Universe The Last Jedi Five Pack Cancelled - Rebelscum.com

Bad news comes in threes. Entertainment Earth also canceled the pre-orders for The Last Jedi 3.75-inch action figure five pack. The cancellation is due to an ordering error that was overlooked. Hopefully, that means these will still make their way to American collectors at some point. In the meantime, we suggest making friends with some Canadian collectors while the set is still available at retail.

The Rise of Skywalker trailer watched record times (cinemablend.com) In its first day of availability, the first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer was watched more than 111 million times. That’s 20 million more views than what The Last Jedi’s teaser trailer and more than double the views that The Force Awakens’ teaser trailer got in its first 24 hours back in late November of 2014. In terms of how the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer has been faring overall since it premiered, it received 87 million views through YouTube views alone from various channels, which outpaces Rogue One’s 87 million, but still lags behind The Force Awakens’ 103 million and The Last Jedi’s 119 million. There isn’t any data on how it’s done on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram views, but Deadline’s report also mentions that even if you just look at the YouTube performance, the preview is going viral “like crazy.” Avengers: Endgame is north of $1.2 billion in 5 days and beats TFA records (jedinews.co.uk) Star Wars Day: ‘May the 4th Be With You’ items for sale (starwars.com) A little Toys “R” Us is coming back (Toy News) The New York Post reports that Tru Kids Brands – a licensing firm formed last year by creditors of the ill-fated Toys R Us – plans to open a handful of US stores in time for the Christmas shopping season. These smaller stores will span about 10,000 square feet each, a radical downsizing from the some 600 stores that were shuttered last year, which typically occupied 20,000 to 50,000 square feet. “We are a little start-up company now,” said Tru Kids chief executive Richard Barry. Barry had not commented on where the new stores will open. Controlled by the investment firms Angelo Gordon and Solus Alternative Asset Management, Tru Kids owns both the Toys R Us and Babies R Us brands, as well as the rights to Geoffrey the Giraffe. The Toy R Us brand still operates more than 900 stores across Asia and Europe. Tru Kids said it will open 70 more stores overseas this year. In the US, Tru Kids operated Geoffrey’s Toy Box pop-up stores inside 600 Kroger grocery stores during the holidays. Dooku: Jedi Lost (audio novel) is out on Tuesday (jedinews.co.uk) The highly anticipated audio novel Star Wars: Dooku: Jedi Lost written by Cavan Scott is out tomorrow!
